Content rules
These rules cover what you may upload to Inkreel and what you may ask it to make. They are part of the Terms of service. They apply to every member of a workspace; the owner is responsible for the workspace as a whole.
The short version
Make your own stories with your own characters. Don't use Inkreel to harm, deceive or exploit anyone, and don't use other people's faces, voices or work without the right to.
Never allowed
- Sexual content involving minors. No sexual or sexualised content of anyone under 18, or of any character who is, appears to be, or is described as under 18. This includes fictional and stylised characters. We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the authorities as the law requires.
- Real people without the right to use them. Do not create images, video or audio that show or imitate a real, identifiable person without their permission or another clear legal right. This includes celebrities, public figures and private individuals, and it includes voices.
- Sexual or intimate content of real people, in any circumstances, with or without claimed permission.
- Deception that can cause harm. Do not make content presented as a real recording of real people or events in order to mislead, including fake statements, fake news footage, impersonation, fraud, or election-related deception.
- Harassment and hate. Do not make content that threatens, harasses or bullies a person, or that promotes hatred or violence against people because of who they are.
- Extreme violence and abuse. No content that promotes or glorifies terrorism, mass violence, self-harm, or the abuse of people or animals. Violence within a fictional story is allowed when it is not gratuitous and not aimed at real people.
- Infringement. Do not upload material you have no right to use, and do not ask the service to reproduce copyrighted characters, artwork, logos, trademarks or brands, or to imitate a living artist's distinctive style to pass off work as theirs.
- Illegal content and activity of any kind.
- Anything your AI provider prohibits. The companies that run the AI models have their own usage policies. A request that breaks them breaks these rules too, and the provider may refuse it or act against your account with them.
Adult content
Sexually explicit content is not allowed on Inkreel. This covers pornography and explicit depictions of sex acts or genitals, in any style, whether or not a particular AI model would produce it. Non-explicit romance, and nudity that is not sexual, such as in a medical or classical-art context, may still be refused by the AI provider's own filters.
Your responsibilities
- Review what you make before you publish it. AI output can be inaccurate, can resemble existing work, and can include things you did not ask for.
- Label AI-generated content where a platform or the law requires it.
- Make sure you have the rights to the songs, scripts and images you upload, and keep records of permissions where you rely on them.
- If your story draws on real events or real people's lives, change or remove details that could identify private individuals.
How we enforce these rules
- An automatic safety check looks at the pictures and videos in every workspace (a few frames of each video) for sexual content and anything sexual involving minors. Anything it finds is locked straight away, so it can't be opened, downloaded, exported, published or reused, and our staff review it. A false alarm is unlocked. Apparent sexual content involving a minor is preserved, not deleted, and reported as the law requires.
- Otherwise we do not look inside workspaces. Our administration tools do not open customers' studios, and staff see a workspace's media only when the safety check has locked it or it is published to or reported in the public gallery.
- We act when something is reported to us, when the safety check finds something, when a provider or authority contacts us, or when the law requires it. To investigate we may need to examine the material concerned.
- Depending on how serious it is, we may remove something, close the account of the person who made it, suspend or close the workspace, and report to the authorities where required.
- Sexual content, and anything sexual involving minors, is zero tolerance. Anyone caught making, uploading or trying to make it is banned, with no warning: their account is closed and they are signed out. If they own the workspace, it is suspended and frozen and its subscription cancelled. No refund is given of any payment, unused time or credits. Apparent child sexual abuse material is reported to the authorities. Where it is reasonable we will tell you what the problem is and give you a chance to respond.
- AI providers apply their own filters and may block a request or restrict a key independently of us.
